OpenDataModels.org is the community-driven continuation and evolution of the Smart Data Models initiative.

This new organization surges directly from the request of the dedicated Smart Data Models community in response to the unfortunate and complex circumstances surrounding the insolvency of the FIWARE Foundation e.V.

Our mission is to ensure the uninterrupted access, governance, and advancement of this essential catalog of open data models for smart solutions globally.

 

Community-Driven Continuity and Evolution

  • 100% Continuity of Service: The new site and team are committed to providing all the services previously available under SmartDataModels.org. All existing data models, documentation, and licensing terms remain fully intact.
  • Enhanced Services: We are already implementing improvements focused on modern governance and usage:
    • Higher Automation: Streamlining the model contribution, validation, and publication processes.
    • AI Support Orientation: Developing new features and metadata to better facilitate the automated use and integration of data models with modern AI/ML workflows and tools.
    • Improved Usability: Enhancing the website and documentation for better developer and user experience.

 

Our Commitment to Openness

The entire catalog of data models remains fully open and royalty-free. We are dedicated to transparent, community-centric governance, maintaining the highest quality and availability.

Regarding the Former FIWARE Foundation

While Smart Data Models was previously managed under the legal umbrella of the Foundation, OpenDataModels.org is currently operating independently.

We remain open to future possibilities: should the FIWARE Foundation’s assets, intellectual property, or activities be successfully re-established or acquired by a viable, appropriate entity, we would evaluate a potential transfer or merger of the Open Data Models initiative to that new entity to secure the long-term future of the project.

Until then, OpenDataModels.org is the dedicated and evolving home for our global community.
